ABOUT US
The Wet Cork Wine Club came to life when Claudia and Arthur Gousby sat down one Saturday evening
and began to think of ways to blend their passions for meeting new people, wine and food. They planned
itineraries for tasting trips to California, Arizona, Virginia, New York, France, Florida, etc. Then it
hit them. Claudia said, "Why not create a wine club where we can share good wine with great people?"
Arthur joined in with, "And we can combine creative food ideas with special tasting events. It will be
great." The Wet Cork Wine Club was born.
At the Wet Cork Wine Club we have three basic goals:
Enjoy quality wine with engaging people.
Enjoy quality food with engaging people.
Learn how to appreciate and communicate about wine and food.
HOW WE REACH OUR GOALS
The Wet Cork Wine Club gathers wine-related event information from all over the Greater-Phoenix Area.
The members and friends of the Wet Cork Wine Club meet at these locations during the month and learn
about the key aspects of wine. Sometimes we pair tapas-styled dishes with key wines. Other times we
invite chefs, sommeliers, wine experts, enthusiasts, and restaurateurs to speak on the wines and/or food
being presented. The intention is to learn some new characteristics about the dishes or drinks that will
enhance our knowledge about them and our experiences with them.
In addition, all will be encouraged to properly taste and subjectively rate the wines and foods we taste.
Our ratings will be stored and shared via the website and newsletters to help present and future members
when they are interested in picking up a certain wine, but just aren't sure.
Why do we do this? When you see a rating in a magazine or a grocery store what does it mean? You don't
know the taster or what qualities the taster is appreciating. Their tastes may not be like yours. By
reviewing the tasting notes from the Wet Cork Wine Club you can match the tasting notes with the taster.
You can know what qualities this taster likes and find a taster that matches your appreciation level.
Then you can read tasting notes that are relevant to you, increasing the chances of getting the wines you like.
The Wet Cork Wine Club is a way to meet quality people, share quality wine and food, and save a little money on
purchasing quality wine.
