Wine Bar Reviews

We visit a few wine bars each month and write out a little review to help others see just what they are missing (or not).

    Gaffney's Wine Bar

Gaffney’s is your friendly neighborhood wine bar, where everybody knows your name, ala “Cheers”. The owners are closed on Sunday and Monday, and sometimes they’ll let patrons run the joint when the owners want more time off.

    The 3rd Corner

The variety in atmosphere provides something for all types. The 3rd Corner has a small bar for conversationalist and those waiting for their party, but I prefer to wait in the lounge area where you can sit on one of their plush leather sofas.

  • Firefly Grill & Wine Bar

Firefly is a restaurant, but they have a good wine selection. I would even say better than many wine stores. Uniqueness in wine selection is important for me and Firefly provides wines that you may not find in every store you go to.

4 Wet Corks out of 5

Theme/Niche:

A wine-themed bistro for all price ranges. You get to shop and buy wine and eat a full meal all in the same place.

Atmosphere:

The variety in atmosphere provides something for all types. The 3rd Corner has a small bar for conversationalist and those waiting for their party, but I prefer to wait in the lounge area where you can sit on one of their plush leather sofas. You can enjoy wine and tapas while you wait. You can even have your entire meal there if you like, but most prefer the main dining area or the outside dining. The atmosphere is vibrant and the service is cheeky.

Wine Selection:

The 3rd Corner is a wine bottle shop with many wines from $10 to $90. Corkage is $4 for wine bought there and $15 for wine that you bring into the establishment. This fee is well worth it because they don’t jack up the prices of their wine as most restaurants do. Once you pick your wine by walking through the restaurant/bottle shop, the server will chill, open and pour for you. There is a good depth of variety in their wine selection.

Food Selection:

The bistro aspect of the 3rd Corner provides a good selection of food to pair with your wines. This is a full menu, not just cheese and sausages. Their dinners range from $10 to $30 a place giving a variety from cheese to Ahi Tuna. They also serve a New York Strip steak on their menu, but a deeper red meat selection would only help with Bordeaux and Cabernet wine pairings.
